The 2010 New York International Wine Auction kicked off the new year with a very successful trip to California wine country. Every year since 1996, NYIWA has sponsored a team comprised of staff and volunteers to travel to California and visit with winery owners, winemakers and their staff in three major California wine producing areas spanning several key American Viticultural Areas. The goal of the trips is always the same: establish new relationships and revisit old friends with the objective in mind to benefit both the winery and NYIWA. NYIWA benefits from the wineries participation in the event through the donation of live auction wine lots, the attendance of the winery at the event by either pouring their wine for tasting venues or pouring for the live auction dinner. The winery benefits from the exposure of their wine to the 300 wine connoisseurs who attend the event and to the publicity their wine and participation receives through the NYIWA marketing programs including its web site, social media marketing and targeted mailing lists.

The 2010 team consists of NYIWA Auction Director Tony Vennera, HARC’s Dominic Frank and NYIWA volunteers Kelly Brown, Bill Owens, Joe Romanelli, and Rudy Scialdo. The Team is well ahead of last year’s record pace of having over 75 California wineries participate in the 2009 auction. This year, preparing for the 2010 Auction, the Team visited over 120 wineries with 46 of the wineries already cementing their participation in the Auction on one or more levels. The Team is following up with 70 wineries that are strongly considering participating this year.
